Tool control has become essential practice within the aviation industry as it ensures all tools used during a maintenance project are accounted for during flight. Poor tool control can affect the Engineer’s efficiency and the overall safety of the aircraft. Searching for missing tools can not only be a time-wasting nuisance but the absolute last thing you want is a loose tool left in an aircraft engine! Not only can foreign object damage from inadequate tool control create billions in cost per year but by just having a few measures in place can be the difference between life and death in some cases, it’s as simple as that.
So how can you make your kit more compliant? The Red Box Tools Team offer the following services:
Shadow Foaming®– Due to its composition and flexibility, the foam we use to create Shadow Foaming® layers are perfect to house and contain any type of tool. We can design and cut these out with CNC router to ensure a snug fit and we can also create push points so can you easily the release the tools from the foam without causing any ripping. Once the tool has been removed from the foam, this also provides another clear indicator that a tool needs to be returned before take-off
Tool engraving– If you and your team have multiples of the same kit, you can make the tools more identifiable with engraving which will prevent any confusion on what should be returned where
Foam etching– If you have a lot of very similar tools within your kit, it can sometimes be confusing as to what goes back where in the foam layer. Therefore, we can etch the tool part numbers into the layer to clearly indicate their respective order
Just these three steps can make a massive difference in ensuring that all your equipment is appropriately catalogued and organised, improving your efficiency on the task at hand and the overall safety of the operation.
